Buildboard Update

The latest version of BuildBoard has just been released.

So for those of you that don't have an Instagram account or don't want to spam others with pics of your overbored greasy piston then this should float your boat. This allongside the use of Instagram gives you plenty of flexibilty to document your build.

I'm using Instagram how do I switch?

All you need to do is go into "Tinker on Build" Menu then click on the Manage Build menu. From there you can just change your Image Upload setting to "I'll upload my own pics.."

PUBLIC BUILDS

Just a quick note for those that have still have their builds as private, feel free to share your masterpieces by turning off the private flag in your build details.

If you're worried about showing your costs you have the ability to turn that off also. It'll let other see what work you've put in and perhaps help someone out if they're stuck for ideas.

Honda Postie CT110 Custom Seat Conversion Kits

After finishing off Fika and making a couple of Postie Seat Conversions for some kind folk. I thought I would officially offer it up as a kit.

The webshop has all the details but it comes with everything needed to remove the chunky stock postie seat and replace it with a Bratstyle flat seat.  Besides the light everything is handmade by me.

The kit comes with
  • Fibreglass leather upholstered seat
  • Super Bright LED taillight
  • Mounting Bracket and Hardware

Feel free to shoot me an email if you've got any questions via the normal channels.

Hand Painted Custom Lid

Lazy afternoon painting this open faced helmet.  Was inspired by an episode of Man VS Wild which was on SBS recently.

Sweet New Tees

The good thing about having this site / blog / Buildboard is that it lets us try whatever we want.  This time we've had a crack at hand printing some Tees designed and printed in house.  Two different designs one being the simple logo and the Ride It Like You Stole It design.

For all you fashionistas out there they come in a variety of base colours and print colours.  The flaked copper came out great and works well with both the lighter and darker tees.

We've also got a singlet for the ladies available in the fancy grey melange.

TShirt can be found on the webstore http://www.lanesplittergarage.com/shop.cfm

New Helmet Done and Cleared

Bought myself a new airbrush after the old one kicked the bucket.  The new model is a Iwata HP-CP and after reading a few reviews it was the best choice for what I was after.

Here's the first attempt after with it, even though I bent the needle halfway through.

Honda Postie CT110 Custom Update

We gave ourselves two months to complete the CT110 Postie custom and it's now 2 months since the tear down.  Budget was very strict and we've managed to wrangle it $150 below the target cost and it's almost complete

We ended up spending a bit extra and getting the frame and all the bits sandblasted.  Money well spent and saved plenty of time and definitely helped the paint prep.  I wanted to go for an antique type feel for the paint and it's come up looking almost like porcelain.

Managed to fire it up last night after realising the ignition coil wasn't earthed properly, which means we'll have it back on the road this weekend.

Follow to build details here on Buildboard and the entire thread here

Barn Finds

I've always liked the idea of a barn find.  Taking a trip into the country and stumbling across a shed full of vintage motorcycles.  Loading up the truck and driving away into the sunset with my tray full of loot.

Snap back to reality, the interwebs has made it increasingly difficult for this to happen.  Today's barnfind is the winning bidder on an ebay auction.

PS.  If anyone reading this has a vintage motorcycle sitting in their barn that they don't want.. message me.. thanks.

Ducati Scrambler 2015

"A Scrambler Means Many Things.." and with that Ducati are to release an addition to their stable in the form of a Scrambler in 2015.

I'm guessing this is response to the popularity of Triumph's version.  And after watching Ducati's promo video it's no doubt who their target audience is.  Along with other big name manufacturers they are after the hard earned cash of the younger punters.

Vintage glimpses of days gone by, surf sun and open spaces.  I wonder if their pricing will reflect the target market.

Looking forward to see what they come up with might even have to grow a Mo for the occasion.

Studio Motor's The Patriot

I've always loved Buells since first spying the Cyclone in an edition of the Motorcycle Trader whilst eating a subway and waiting for a bus back out to suburbia.  Eric Buells oddballs designs really captured my attention, it was so different to what was currently on the market.

Fast forward a few years down the track with the release of the Ulysses.  Perhaps is it should have been called the Uglysses, as it was probably one of the ugliest bikes that I've lever laid eyes on.

I tried many things to make the sight of this bike disappear including watching a full solar eclipse without any cardboard eye protection.  It's like the old saying you're only as good as your last [insert whatever thing, in this case a bike].  For me, Buell was always be remembered by the Uglysses which is a shame as the lighting and firebolt were great at the time.

It wasn't until today when I saw what Studio Motors had done to this machine that I can finally remove it from my memory.

So on this note I say thankyou Studio Motors for helping me forget.

See more pics of this beauty and the nitty gritty here
